Appeals Procedure Policy
The following sets out the appeals procedure for AM Training. This procedure covers the process for raising appeals against an academic judgement or assessment decision that has been made. A learner has the right to appeal should they feel that proper process has not been followed or that any of the following have occurred:
- The Learner feels their learning needs have not been met.
- The Learner feels they have been discriminated against.
- The Learner has been advised that they are not ready for assessment.
- The Learner disagrees with the academic judgements or assessment decision.
- The learner believes that the AM Training procedures have not been applied properly, consistently and fairly.
- The learner feels that the premises/environment for assessment has disadvantaged them.
N.B (Should a learner wish to appeal against a decision made after a complaint has been investigated then please refer to our Complaints Procedure).
Initially, if a learner has concerns, they should speak to their Assessor / Tutor to discuss the matter and hopefully reach a satisfactory conclusion. However, if the learner is unhappy with the outcome of this discussion, they should refer the matter in writing to their AM Training Internal Quality Assurer.
If an appeal is being made to the Internal Quality Assurer, please include the following information:
- Your full name, contact details, and include a daytime telephone number
- A full description of your appeal (including the subject matter and dates and times if known)
- Any names of the people you have dealt with so far
- Copies of any papers or letters to do with the appeal
- Any other factors for consideration such as any extenuating circumstances that the learner either did not address at the time or believes that were raised but were not taken into consideration when the decision was made.
AM Training ask that you raise your appeal as soon as possible after the event so that we can investigate fully. We will acknowledge receipt of your appeal within five working days.
Your Internal Quality Assurer will arrange a meeting with you and your Assessor / Tutor. The Internal Quality Assurer will listen to both parties, examine any relevant evidence, and make a decision about which you will both be informed in writing within ten working days.
If no satisfactory outcome has been reached after this discussion, you may appeal in writing to the Lead IQA who will investigate the matter and inform all involved of any decision reached; this will be provided in writing within ten working days.
In some cases when required, appeals will be further investigated, and a review panel may be formed in order to reach a decision. We aim to investigate and respond to further appeals within four weeks.
You can request for a member of staff of your choice to be present at any meeting that occurs.
If you wish to take your appeal beyond AM Training Limited, you can appeal in writing to the Awarding Body External Quality Assurer and in the last resort the Awarding Body itself. The Internal Quality Assurer can give you the address and the person who to write to.
For Highfield qualifications they can be contacted directly on: 01302 363277. Their appeals policy can be located on their website:
https://www.highfieldqualifications.com
Should you address your appeal to Highfield Qualifications and remain unhappy with the outcome you may then raise your appeal to the relevant qualification regulator. Either a representative of AM Training or Highfield Qualifications will be able to offer you guidance on the appropriate qualification regulator in each instance and provide contact details.
